Terms

General terms and conditions for the purchase and use of electronic tickets

1. Preliminary remarks.

The following provisions apply exclusively to tickets for the transport of passengers purchased using the mobile app “CFL mobile” (hereinafter referred to as “electronic tickets”).

2. Requirement to carry a supporting document for cross-border and international tickets.

You must be able to present an identity document when your cross-border or international electronic ticket is inspected, since these tickets are personal and non-transferable. They are only valid if you present a valid identity document in your name (passport, identity card or driving licence) to the ticket inspector.

You must enter your personal details directly, using the “CFL mobile” app, when you create your customer account. These details will appear on the electronic tickets and you must update them when necessary.

3. Validity of tickets.

Individual electronic tickets are valid from the time they are purchased, except in the following cases:

Details of prices for each product can be viewed directly in the “CFL mobile” app under the menu “Tickets” in the “Products” tab.

4. Inspection of tickets.

4.1. Inspection on your mobile phone screen.

If necessary, you must hand your mobile phone to the inspector so your ticket can be inspected. The inspector is authorised to use the mobile phone to carry out an inspection in due and proper form. You must be in possession of a validated ticket for your journey prior to departure (train, tram or bus).

The purchase and issuance of the ticket must be fully completed before the actual departure of the train, tram or bus. The ticket or season ticket must be valid and must be visible on the screen.

Failing that, you will be required to pay an administrative fine of 150 euros under the act of 13 September 2013 amending the amended Luxembourg Public Transport Act of 29 June 2004.

You will also be considered to be travelling without a valid ticket if you are unable to present your electronic ticket for inspection for a reason relating to your mobile phone, for example the battery is out of charge or for any other technical reason.

4.2. Inspection using electronic inspection equipment.

The ticket inspectors working for the various public transport operators use electronic devices that allow them to read the bar codes on electronic tickets. The inspectors are authorised to use these devices to carry out an additional inspection of electronic tickets.

5. Refunds.

Electronic tickets purchased via the “CFL mobile” app cannot be exchanged or refunded.

6. Liability of the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL).

The Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) declines any responsibility in case of a breakdown of the mobile phone, or in case of loss or theft of it. In addition, valid tickets during the unavailability of the mobile phone will not be refunded, as the ticket can be used on a new device or on a backup device using the customer account.

7. Changes to prices and amendments to the general terms and conditions.

The current version of these general terms and conditions applies at all times. CFL can amend the terms and conditions at any time in order to bring them into line with current regulations or in the event of changes in technology or practices. The new terms and conditions are published on the website www.cfl.lu and in the “CFL mobile” app.

Any changes to these general terms and conditions are notified to the customer when they first make a purchase or on the first validation following the amendment by forcing the approval of the amended terms by the customer.
